Toilet, lavatory, restroom - the most important bowl in every bathroom

The toilet bowl, also known as the toilet or lavatory, is the most important (at least in my opinion) element of any bathroom. Can you imagine walking into a bathroom in a newly finished apartment of a friend and not finding a toilet? 💩?! I think you would be at least surprised, especially if you went there for a necessity 😉. In this article, I will outline the main features of toilet bowls, show their types, and provide some tips on how to best locate them in the bathroom.

 

A toilet bowl consists of several main components. The elements are highlighted in the illustration below, and briefly described below:

 

1. Bowl: This is the main part of the device, where the user sits or stands while using the toilet. The bowl has an opening called a funnel, through which waste flows into the sewage system.
2. Flush tank: Most toilet bowls are equipped with a water tank that is used to flush and remove the contents of the bowl into the sewage.
3. Flush mechanism: This is a system of valves and mechanisms that control the flow of water from the tank to the bowl during flushing.
4. Seat and lid: The seat allows the user to comfortably use the toilet, while the lid serves as a cover and an aesthetic element.
5. Drain pipe: It carries the contents of the bowl to the sewage system, where it is further processed.

 

 

 

There are several types of toilet bowls available on the market, differing in style, functions, and construction. Here are some of the popular types of toilet bowls:

1. Floor-mounted toilet bowl: This is a traditional model with a seat and lid. It is widely used in homes and public places.

• Wall-mounted toilet bowl: Mounted on the wall, it allows for easy floor cleaning and is particularly suitable for bathrooms with modern designs. These toilets are installed on a metal frame called a mounting frame. The flush tank is attached to the frame, which is secured to the wall or wall and floor, and finally enclosed like the other walls in the bathroom. Only the flush buttons remain visible. You can also buy a frame with a ready-made enclosure made of glass panels in milky, mint, chocolate, or black colors.  

 

• Rimless toilet bowl: A rimless WC bowl is a type of toilet bowl that features an innovative design without the traditional rim, which is the area usually found inside the bowl where deposits and dirt collect, making it difficult to clean. Rimless toilets are designed to facilitate cleanliness and hygiene while minimizing the risk of bacteria and contaminants accumulating.

 

• Bidet toilet bowl: A bowl equipped with a water nozzle for cleaning after use, providing comfort and hygiene. The function of the toilet bowl can be expanded by purchasing a washboard instead of a regular toilet seat, known as a washboard with a basic or advanced washing program. In the minimum version, you can use cleaning with a stream of water (which flows from a nozzle that extends from the seat) with adjustable pressure and body temperature. In more expensive versions, the water temperature and flow intensity can be adjusted, there is also a massage option, gentle drying with a stream of warm air, and odor removal.

 

 

 

• Automatic flushing toilet bowl: It has motion or touch sensors, allowing for automatic flushing after leaving the bowl. This solution is mainly used in the bathrooms of public facilities.

 

• Water-saving toilet bowl: Equipped with a dual flush system, allowing the selection of the amount of water during flushing.
• Toilet bowl for people with disabilities: Larger in size and easier to access, designed for people with mobility limitations.
• Self-cleaning toilet bowl: Utilizes technologies such as antibacterial coatings or ultrasonic action to keep the bowl clean.
• Eco-friendly toilet bowl: Offers innovative solutions aimed at minimizing water consumption and saving energy.

 

An important feature for our toilet bowl may be its color. The range is quite limited here. The most popular is, of course, white, but you can also find toilets in black or even gold. For color matching, it is safest to buy fixtures from the same series or at least from the same manufacturer, as shades of white (or other colors) can also vary. Many manufacturers offer toilet bowls and complete sets of ceramics (toilet, sink, bidet) in colors other than white: pink, green, blue, red, shades of brown, beige, or gray, and even black. This allows for an attractive design effect.
